Visual Artist Statement

Your artist statement is how galleries, curators, and grant committees decide whether your work gets a second look.

Write in first person, present tense. Avoid art-world jargon — if a smart friend outside the art world wouldn't understand it, simplify it.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Structure: What your work is about → What drives you → How you make it. Avoid 'I am interested in...' — show the interest through specific examples.

List your strongest 2-3 exhibitions or grants. Quality over quantity — curators know the difference.
